An Evening with Elders

An Evening with Elders is one of the our continuous projects in this year. The project was inaugurated in the month of October.From October onwards we have managed to organize this event consistently in every month. Our focus is to spend some time with those innocent elders while providing Tea with some snack. As usual we provided Tea for these Elders in the Salina Alwis Elders on the 27th of February 2010.

The annual get together of Leo Club of Bokundara was held on the 11th of February 2010 at our club President Leo Akila's home. The main aim of this event is to build fellowship among our members. By building the fellowship we will be able to bring more synergy and It will help us to organize more and more successful projects in the future.

Leo Youth Camp 2010-"Challenge The Impossible

Three of Our Leos participated in the Leo Camp 2010 which was held on the 13th to 15th February at Kithulgala.It was the best Leo camp so far. The event was full of adventure games. And a lot of Leoadership Development events.It was one of the unforgettable event in our lives.

Speech Training Work Shop

We held our club general meeting on the 30^th of January at one of our member’s home. The chief guest for the occasion was District Chairman for Leos Lion Noel Palliyaguru. When we visited him to invite him for the general meeting as the chief guest he proposed to organize a speech training workshop for our Leos on the same day.

After concluding the general meeting he started his lecture on” how to deliver a successful speech. In his lecture he taught about speaking styles, actions, how to collect information about eye contact, how to attract listeners and about preparation before a speech. We also distributed some important leaflets about the above topic. It was really valuable for those who participated. After his lecture we did an ice breaking event to finish the workshop.

The project cost was Rs 140.00. 9 Leos from our club, 1 visiting Leo and the Leo Advisor was there at the occasion.

Service Project at camila school

We provided Dinner for the Disable Children at Camila School on the 29th November. This was joint project with the Leo Club of Moragahahena and Lions Club of Moragahahena. Before giving the dinner we didn't forget to spend some time with those children singing and dancing. 15 Leos from two clubs and three Lions were present at the occasion.

Elders care project

Form October onwards we decided to provide Tea once in a month for the elders who are living in the Salina de Alwis Eldres home as a monthly continous project. Therefor we provided Tea on the 29th November and manage spend some time with them. As a reply to their request we also donated some First Aid , Toilet Brushes, Hand Gloves and some other cleaning equipments to the matron of the place.

IT work shop

IT work shop for Leos project conducted by the Leo Clubs of Bokundara, Moragahahena, horana Metro and Polgasowita was held on the 22nd November at Camila School Hall Mattegoda. Leo Advisor of our club Lion Widyakeerti Dissanayake sponsored for this valuable project while Leo Kaneel was the project coordinator.The work shop was conducted by two of the IT specialists working in the NSB bank in Colombo main branch.A certificate and a CD pack was provided for all the participants. Past District governor Lion Kamal Seneviratna participated as the Chief Guest at the ceremonial session.All together there were 52 Leos from various clubs of the district and it was one of the best projects in this leoistic year.

Joint General Meeting - November

Leo Club of Bokundara and Egodawatta organized our General Meeting jointly on the 14th of November at Camila School Hall Mattegoda. The Zone Director Leo Thiwanthi Kulasekara participated as the Chief Guest. It was great to see that 26 Leos from organizing Leo Clubs participated in the event. Also Leo Adviser of Leo Club of Bokundara and Zone Chairman Lion Rohana Kulasekara was present at the occassion.
The main event of the occasion was handing over the Spot Light Child Care Banner Patch which was awarded by the Lions Club International for one our biggest projects "Smile to Children". The Banner Patch was handed over by the Chief Guest Leo Thiwanthi to the President of the Club. And the Certificates for the participants for that project was given by Lion Widyakeerthi Dissanayake. It was the first time that a club has taken this banner patch in our district. So it is a massive achievement for Leos and the correct spark that we have been looking to mortivate our Leos.

The meeting was a great opportunity for us to build the friendship among the Leos of two clubs...

We are very much looking forward to organize more of these events in future.

An Evening with Elders

Leos of Leo Club of Bokundara organized an Elders Care Project on the 29th October 2009 at the Salina de Alwis Elder's Home. On that day we provided Tea for those elders and after that we spend some time with them asking about the problems they are facing and how we can help them. This project is one of the main events in our calendar. In previous months we gave Tea for the children in Jagaddhala Children Home. 12 Leos and 2 Parents were present at the occasion.

Dengue Preventing Project

Dengue Fever suddenly has become a huge threat to our society. Thousands of people in different parts of the country have suffered from this in last six months.Dengue Fever is something we can prevent if we can pay our attention. This disaster has occurred because of our selves and the environmental pollution. So Leos of our Club decided to organize a Dengue Preventing Project in the Dengue Preventing week. We made a leaflet that includes how we can prevent Dengue and we should react after. On the 25th September evening we visited close to 100 houses in Madapatha area and distributed our leaflets and explained the importance of keeping their surrounding clean. We thought our effort was very successful after the appreciation we got from the villagers. We are looking forward to organize some more of these projects in near future as well.

Banner Openning Ceremony of Leo Club of Bokundara

The Lions Club of Moragahahena took the responsibility to sponsor our Leo Club after been without a Lions Club for almost two years.It was a new beginning for our club after a couple of challenging years. The banner Openning ceremony was held on the 27th Septtember 2009 at Camila School Hall Mattegoda. The chief guest for this occasion was District Governor Lion Nimal Aluthge. District President of Leo District 306 A2 Leo Dumindu Jayakody, Immediate Past President Leo Chathura Deshapriya, Lions Club members of Lions Club of Moragahahena and Leos of Leo Club of Moragahahena were also with us at this occasion.

Smile to Children

Smile to children child care project is one of the continuous projects of Leo Club of Bokundara. The project was started in year 2007.In that year we took the children of Jagaddala Childrens Home to watch the Dehiwala Zoo. In next year we took them to watch the ABA movie. In both Leo Conferences they were awarded as the Best Child Care Project. In this year we did this project to celebrate the World Children's Day.As a gift for those innocent children we accompanied them to watch the latest children's movie "Bindu" on the 4th of October at Tower Cinema Hall, Moratuwa. 26 children watched the movie with our Leos on that memorable day

The Year Gone By

The last year without adoubt was one of the Best years for our club. We were able to organize some valuble service projects while conducting leadership development workshops.Through our self development programs we managed to build some leaders who are capable of taking our club forward which was one of our greatest achievements.We were very well lead and it was a key to our success.In the previous year we managed to increase the number of members by inducting 17 Leos to our Leo Family.

Installation Ceremony

The 4th annual installation ceremony of Leo Club of Bokundara was held on the 19th July 2009 @ Nithila reception hall Kesbewa.The Chief Guest for this special event was District president of District 306 A2 Leo Dumindu Jayakody. The Immediate Past President of District 306 A2 Leo Chathura Deshapriya was the guest of Honor in that occassion. Over 15 visiting leos from various Leo Clubs participated in that unforgettable ceremony. It was actually a new beginning under a new leader. Leo Akila former vice president of our club was appointed as the new club president.In fact we have a very good unit of Leos who are looking forward to give there hundred percent in the upcoming leoistic year
